Gaudete Sunday: Walking in Joy with Mary and Joseph

As we light the third candle of Advent, symbolizing Joy, we reflect on where Mary and Joseph would have been at this point in their journey to Bethlehem.

By now, they would have been deep into the Judean hills, perhaps just days away from reaching Bethlehem. The terrain was harsh and unforgiving, with rocky paths, steep inclines, and cold winter nights. Despite the physical toll, Mary and Joseph carried a profound joy in their hearts, trusting in God’s plan and the miracle they were awaiting.

Our Journey in the Walk to Bethlehem Challenge

In the Walk to Bethlehem Challenge, many participants are approaching the final stretch of the 140,000-step goal. If you’re on track, you’ve likely completed around 105,000 steps, symbolizing the resilience and determination of Mary and Joseph. If you’re catching up, there’s still time to join us and walk in solidarity with mothers worldwide who face their own challenges in accessing safe maternal care.

Finding Joy Along the Way

This Advent, we are reminded that joy isn’t found in ease or comfort, but in trust, faith, and the purpose behind our journey. Just as Mary and Joseph rejoiced in the promise of the Savior, we too can find joy in walking alongside them and supporting mothers in need.

Your steps in this challenge are more than a physical journey—they are a spiritual act of solidarity and hope. Every step you take and every donation you inspire makes a difference, bringing life-saving care to mothers and babies who need it most.
