Lent is a wonderful season during our liturgical year to participate in prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Lent is an opportunity for all of us to recommit ourselves to our discipleship and to strengthen our relationship with Jesus Christ.
MaterCare's Lenten Promise:
Sunday, March 1st- On this Sunday we pray for mothers everywhere who desperately need basic obstetrical care. We pray that MaterCare can continue to be an advocate for maternal rights and dignity through our initiatives and projects.
Sunday, March 8th- On this Sunday we pray for obstetricians and midwives to strengthen their commitment to human life and ask for courage and strength to be granted to them when facing the culture of death. We pray especially for those countries, like Ireland and Canada, where those upholding the dignity of human life are becoming increasingly persecuted.
Sunday, March 15th- On this Sunday, we ask "what can I do more of" to be more like Christ? In particular, we will seek to help mothers and children through love and support, focusing on how we can show them that they are valuable and appreciated. We focus on giving to others, friends, colleagues, neighbors and charities.
Sunday, March 22nd- On this Sunday, we ask our supporters to share MaterCare's story. This can be done in person or online. Share our website at MaterCare.org through email, Facebook, Twitter and by talking to others about our work.

Monday, March 25th- The feast of the Annunciation marks the visit of the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary, during which he told her that she would be the mother of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We believe obstetricians and midwives are the most privileged medical and nursing caregivers, as they serve the co-creators of human life. The acceptance of the invitation to Mary to become the Mother of God establishes our own duty as fellow human beings to say "Yes!" to serving mothers and their children.
Sunday, March 29th- On this Sunday, we ask our supporters to consider donating to MaterCare or encouraging others to donate to MaterCare. This can be done easily online at MaterCare.org/donate or by calling us at (709) 579-6472.
Sunday, April 5th- PALM SUNDAY Jesus entered Jerusalem to give His life on the cross, saving us all from sin and death. We reflect on the final days of Jesus' life on earth, and recommit ourselves to carrying our own cross in today's world.
