On this 33rd World Day of the Sick, observed annually on February 11th, we join Catholics worldwide in reflecting on the profound message of hope and compassion. This year's theme, inspired by Saint Paul's words, reminds us: "Hope does not disappoint" (Romans 5:5). In the context of the Jubilee Year 2025, Pope Francis invites us to be "pilgrims of hope," finding strength even in times of trial. 

Pope Francis emphasizes that God remains close to those who suffer, through encounter, gift, and sharing. He reminds us that physical illness can have emotional and spiritual effects, and that our faith calls us to support and accompany those who are ill.

At MaterCare International, our mission aligns deeply with this call. As an organization of Catholic health professionals, we are dedicated to the care of mothers and babies, both born and unborn. Through new initiatives of service, training, research, and advocacy, we strive to reduce the tragically high rates of maternal mortality, morbidity, and abortion worldwide. 

In our work, we witness firsthand the transformative power of hope. Each mother and child we serve is a testament to resilience and the profound impact of compassionate care. Our projects, such as those in Uganda and Rwanda, focus on educating and empowering the medical community, ensuring that even in the most challenging circumstances, hope is present and tangible. 

On this World Day of the Sick, we encourage everyone to reflect on how we can embody hope for those who are suffering. Whether through prayer, volunteering, or supporting organizations dedicated to healthcare, each action contributes to a world where hope does not disappoint but strengthens us all in times of trial.

Let us remember the words of Pope Francis: "Hope does not disappoint, but strengthens us in times of trial." May we all become bearers of this hope, bringing comfort and healing to those in need.
